An Iwakawa Hataten original carp climbing a waterfall pattern tenugui hand towel.
According to legend, a carp leaping the falls of Dragon's Gate in China will become a dragon. The word “toryumon” in Japanese, literally climbing the waterfall gate, means “gateway to success” and refers to a barrier to success in life. This word is used when wishing for the future success of children as well as for celebrations such as the Boys' Day Festival.

Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, famous for hagiyaki ware and its castle, is a fishing town that faces the Japan Sea. Iwakawa Hataten was established more than 100 years ago. It specializes in the production of flags, curtains and banners, while carefully hand-making original accessories, hand towels, etc, using dyed Tairyobata fabric.
