Creating A Blueprint
An actual-size blueprint is drawn on Japanese paper using brushes and pencils. |
Transferring The Blueprint
The blueprint is laid upon the wood materials and copied. The aim is to make the engraving process as easy as possible. |
A general outline of the lines and contours is formed from the blueprint and the basic shape begins to take place. Afterwards, the entire plank is carved according to the guidelines |
The wood is carefully carved so that an item with a flat surface will become three dimensional. Much consideration is given to the overall beauty of the engraving, as well as which parts will be shown and which parts will remain unseen. For the finish, the surface is polished by sandpaper and wax, taking care to remove any fingerprints or imprints that may have been left behind.
