Kyoto Machiya Townhouse, Summer Arrangement
Until September 10 (Mon.)
A summer Kyoto machiya townhouse with lots of wise ideas to keep you cool.
This museum uses a machiya townhouse built during the Taisho period. The building, known as Shiorian, is a typical example of a “Daiheizukuri” construction, where the building doesn't face the street. In summer months, the tatami changes to “aojiki” and “misushoji”, whilst the folding screens and arbor are also specifically for summer. Here you will be able to experience a Kyoto machiya townhouse in the most beautiful summer arrangement.
